Italian Commedia dell’Arte and Chinese shadow theatre are art forms that hold centuries of cultural heritage, but as modern theatre, media and technology overwhelm the world of performing arts, these two beautiful traditional performances have been sidelined, and gradually are getting forgotten. 

Inspired by “L’Augellin Belverde”, The Green Bird, an 18th-century play by Carlo Gozzi, we have fused these two art forms to tell a magical story about two orphan siblings in search of their origins. In a magical fairytale world, surrounded by speaking birds, kings, moving statues and magic apples, we will uncover a bawdy play that doesn’t cease to be relevant.

Generosity, self-love, and the limits of egotism wrapped up an adult comedy. As paper is our sole material, big rolls of paper crossing the stage will be the canvas to portray Gozzi’s story.
