Hi there fellow Dead Dad Club (DDC, yes we need hats) members!
I'm so, so sorry you are in this club with me, it's the last place I ever wanted to be. But since we are here, let's grieve as a community.
This Father's Day we'll be walking the Brockley Three peaks, a 5.1 mile (8.2 km) circular route through some gorgeous green spaces in SE London. Wear good shoes or boots that you don't mind getting muddy and bring a water bottle, there will be plently of places to fill up along the way. It's a moderate walk with some elevation, so it could take us between 2-3 hours.
We'll meet at Pistachios in the Park if anyone wants to grab a coffee and have a chat before leaving promptly at 10.30am.
I also want to say, as gently and clearly as I can that this walking club is specifically for people whose fathers have died (rather than other parental figures or relatives). Those losses are deeply important and deserve community too, but for this particular event I want to keep the space focused around the death of a father.
If that’s not your experience, I’d really recommend The New Normal Charity (TNN) who run weekly peer support sessions both online and in person. You can also find free Grief Cafes or Death Cafes in London that run in person sessions as well.
