Five Weeks Of Fall

Tue 13 Oct 2026 6:30 PM - Tue 10 Nov 2026 8:30 PM Nus Nus Coffee, SE4 2AB

Join me, Anna Dempsey, for five Tuesdays of guided fiction writing and workshopping with a supportive, kind community.

This course is perfect for writers of any stage who want to explore their voice, try new ideas, start a writing project or connect with fellow creatives in a relaxed environment. Each week we will focus on different elements of short story/novel writing including plot, dialogue, character, setting and pacing.

We'll gather inspiration from On Writing by Stephen King, WITCH edited by Michelle Tea, Where Are You Going?, Where Have You Been? By Joyce Carol Oates and more (I mean duh, Shirely Jackson will be in here!). We'll also watch clips from films/TVshows like Mermaids, Practical Magic and Freaks and Geeks.

These 5 Weeks are a great time to start a new short story, novel or dive back into some old idea notebooks.

When: Tuesdays, 6.30-8.30, Dates: 13 Oct, 20 Oct, 27 Oct, 3 Nov, 10 Nov

Where: Nūs Nūs Coffee Shop (we will have the whole place to ourselves!)

What to Expect:

  • Guided writing exercises each week, handouts (I love handouts so much) and optional writing homework
  • Opportunities to share your work with a welcoming group
  • Cookies, tea and juice will be for sale throughout the evening
  • A chance to be part of a creative community (yay local friends)
  • Each week, two writers will share up to 2,500 words and receive thoughtful feedback from me and the group

*This course is a joyful, inclusive feminist space open to all and writing or behaviour that includes transphobia, homophobia, sexism, racism or other forms of discrimination/hate will not be accepted.
