Hi there fellow Dead Dad Club (DDC, yes we need hats) members--Anna here! I will be your guide as we walk and talk.
I'm so, so sorry you are in this club, it's the last place I ever wanted to be. But since we are here, let's grieve as a community.
This November we'll be walking Freddie's Blossom walk, a 5 mile (8.2 km) circular memorial route through some gorgeous green spaces in SE London. This Lewisham route was created (and planted) by Freddie's parents, Archie and Emily in partnership with Street Trees for Living. Wear good shoes or boots that you don't mind getting muddy and bring a water bottle and a packed lunch, there will be plently of places to fill up along the way. It's a moderate walk with some elevation, so it could take us between 2-3 hours.
We'll meet outside of Pistachios in the Park (which is at the top of Hilly Fields near the Stone Circle) and have a chat before leaving promptly at 10.45am.
I also want to say, as gently and clearly as I can that this walking club is specifically for people whose fathers have died (rather than other parental figures or relatives, or father's you are no longer in contact with). Those deaths and relational changes are deeply important and deserve community too, but for this particular event I want to keep the space focused around the death of a father.
If that’s not your experience, I’d really recommend The New Normal Charity (TNN) who run weekly peer support sessions both online and in person. You can also find free Grief Cafes or Death Cafes in London that run in person sessions as well.
