About Paul Miller Exacta

Paul Miller came out of the perennially overshadowed and under-exposed Ventura, CA music scene. At the age of fifteen Paul was playing backyard parties with his first hardcore punk band Ground Zero. Stepping into a leadership role, Paul started the now legendary Expression. He was playing lead guitar, writing the material, and fronting the band as the vocalist. Expression, who soon changed their name to Narthex Structure, was a stand out band with hooky melodic songs and heartfelt singing. In 1984 before Bad religion’s 1988 album Suffer kicked down the door for melodic hardcore’s ascendancy in the late 80’s and early 90’s, punk bands weren’t singing. It was a shock then to hear this awkward teenager belting it out in such an emotive and pleasing way. But things happened, lack of resources, bad luck, drug addiction, and Narthex remained revered but largely unknown.

I know it’s a cliche but Narthex Structure really is “your favorite band from 1984 that you never heard”. Listening to their EP 1984 you just know.

This brings us up to today. Paul is back on his feet, living in Portland, playing guitar, writing songs and suddenly he is releasing new material. He started recording at a few studios in Portland in 2023 and has released two songs under the band name Paul Miller Exacta, with a video featuring skateboarding legend Christian Hosoi, Christian’s father affectionately known as Pops, and Cesario “Block” Montano. The video is directed by Steve Hanft (Beck, Elliott Smith, Hank III, etc.). 

And the bells keep ringing, Paul will be playing several shows this summer with Narthex Structure in Oxnard, San Diego, and Ventura. Immediately after, he returns home to kick off the first gig of the new Paul Miller Exacta project in Portland at Hallowed Halls. Legendary Portland drummer Dean Miles, and bassist Evan Vincent will join Paul for this show.

About Crystal Canopy 

Influenced by Radiohead, GUAPA, and Indie rock -- multiple songwriters unite their talents. Songstress Miranda Rae, with her jazz-trained melodies, violin, and lyrics, complements Drew Claw's earthy guitar compositions. Together, they craft a dynamic symphony of style and sound. The final components, Andy and Trent, both multi-instrumentalists, provide bass and drums, creating a full-spectrum sound experience.
