'JACK': A monologue, written and performed by Stephen Wale

A mesmerising one-man show written and performed by Stephen Wale. 

1973, Jack, 75, stands in a corridor waiting to be picked up for weekend release to his remaining family.  On Sunday afternoon, he will be delivered back to the institution. As he waits, he travels his inner landscape, re-rehearsing the events that took him, underage, from the safety of his overcrowded family home in Leicester to the swamps of the Western front in WW1. In Ypres, a catastrophic accident tips him over the edge of endurance and into fifty years of life lived under psychiatric care as a ward of the state. His reveries bring him full circle to the moment he stands before us. 

'Jack' has now had over 40 performances in London, Leicester and Belfast, where it has been enthusiastically received. In Edinburgh it will play throughout the festival period. Stephen Wale hails from Leicester and graduated from Drama Centre London in 1976. Ever since he has worked in all media, making several films and appearing on popular television shows.  The character of 'Jack' was inspired by Stephen's uncle, a veteran of WW1.
