Join us for a day of inspiration, education and community as The Herb Society hosts a combined Members’ Day and AGM on Saturday the 14th September.

Our first in-person meet-up since 2019, the event is taking place at the Dorothy Fox Education Centre, which is on the grounds of the beautiful Sheffield Botanical Gardens.

Event Highlights and Agenda:

AGM:

All Herb Society members are invited to join us for our Annual General Meeting, which will be held in-person at this event. The AGM will also be live-streamed so members who cannot make the trip to Sheffield can view the meeting. In order to ensure the AGM runs as smoothly and efficiently as possible, we are inviting members to submit questions prior to the AGM so any necessary enquiries can be made before the meeting. Please send your questions via e-mail to support@herbsociety.org.uk by Friday 6th September 2024.

We are delighted to be joined by Dr. Phil Deakin, who is a practising herbalist with a background in conventional medicine. The title of Phil’s talk is “The plants you need will find you” - stories and journeys into herbal medicine “, which will focus on some UK plants and how they have shaped herbal medicine and the impact they have had on Phil’s own herbal journey.

Many of us who spend time amongst plants will know that there will often be certain ones which feature prominently at key moments in our lives.

In this presentation Phil will tell stories about encounters with some of the plants that have become a part of his own journey and highlight some of the mythology, folklore, tradition and science that they embody. It should be relevant to both practising herbalists and the herb curious too!

Phil's Bio

Phil Deakin BSc (Sheffield and Lincoln) MB ChB FNIMH MCPP MURHP

Phil’s route to herbal practice has encompassed work as a doctor in hospitals, primary care and unscheduled care settings. Although he now identifies as a herbalist, his experiences in conventional healthcare have equipped him to reference a number of perspectives when supporting people with their health and wellbeing as a herbal practitioner.

Phil regards himself as a facilitator for sharing knowledge rather than a teacher. Spending time with others spotting the connections between plants, people and wellbeing makes him feel very happy.
