Church Crawling with Rachel Morley

A transporting and gloriously entertaining evening through the hidden lives of England’s rural parish churches – from building conservator and church ‘rescuer’ Rachel Morley.

Church Crawling is a fascinating journey through the hidden lives of England's parish churches. Inspired by the phrase coined by John Betjeman, Rachel Morley reveals how these seemingly quiet buildings become portals to the past, filled with extraordinary stories, folklore and centuries of communal memory.

From mysterious graffiti and medieval wall paintings to miraculous cures, ghostly legends and remarkable historical characters, Rachel uncovers the rich human stories hidden within these ancient places. At a time when many churches are under threat, she reminds us why they remain among England's greatest cultural treasures.

Rachel is a building conservator, Director of the Friends of Friendless Churches, former Chair of the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.

She will be in conversation with Merlin Waterson about her new book.
