8 contact hours · 3 weeks · 2 hours of recorded lecture weekly + a 2-hr supplemental live session
This three-week course covers botanical approaches to common oral health needs — gum health, infection, pain, sensitivity, canker sores, and more — across every stage of life. It includes the herbs, the preparations, and the clinical judgment to use them effectively, including when to refer.
Dental care is expensive, appointments are hard to get, and a toothache or infected gum doesn't wait for business hours. Most families are already improvising in the gap between what hurts and when they can get to a dentist — often with ibuprofen, saltwater rinses, and a lot of hoping. This course will give you something more useful.
From teething infants to dry socket after extraction, recurring canker sores, sensitivity, gum health and more, there is a meaningful role for botanical medicine at every stage of life and in a surprising number of common oral health situations. This course covers the herbs, the preparations, and the clinical judgment to use them as well as recognizing red flags for higher care.
What This Course Covers
This course grounds herbal oral care in the physiology behind it.
- Anatomy and pathophysiology of common oral health problems: toothache, abscess, inflamed gums, mouth ulcers, dry socket, and cavities
- Materia medica for oral health: how the herbs work, what forms are most effective in the mouth, and how to prepare them at home
- Preparations for oral care: rinses, poultices, infused oils, and topical applications
- Clinical decision-making: which situations require urgent dental care, which can be managed herbally while awaiting an appointment, and which are within the scope of home care
Who is this course for?
Parents of young children who want to handle teething, mouth sores, and minor dental discomfort at home without defaulting immediately to over-the-counter numbing agents. Adults managing recurring gum inflammation, sensitivity, ulcers, or post-procedure discomfort who want botanical options alongside conventional care. Anyone building out a family herbal practice who wants to fill one of the most practical — and most commonly overlooked — gaps in herbal education. No prior dental knowledge or herbal experience required.
What You'll Be Able to Do

- Prepare the forms of botanical medicine most effective in the mouth — rinses, poultices, infused oils, and topical applications
- Triage oral health situations confidently: what you can manage at home, what you can support using herbs while arranging professional care, and what needs a dentist today
Prerequisites: None.
