The Nervous System for Herbalists - 2026

This 4-week course will focus on the nervous system anatomy, physiology, and holistic physiology. Every Monday, we will release course materials for students to download. Specific herbs and viewing the physiology of the nervous system through the eyes of the herbalist will be stressed as well.

The nervous system is a very complex physiological structure that does more than simply coordinating musculoskeletal actions. We will study the two major divisions of the nervous system (central and peripheral) as well as the autonomic, enteric, and somatic nervous systems. However, we will also explore the relationship between nervous system disorders and our sense of self. The concepts of stress, anxiety, depression, burnout, PTSD, and other disorders have a relationship with the nervous system itself.

We will cover the basic anatomy and physiology of the nervous system including synapses, myelination, action potentials, and sensory physiology. We will also look at a number of various physical disorders of the nervous system and possible holistic approaches to:

• Trauma (physical and emotional) recovery
• Multiple Sclerosis
• Epilepsy
• Bell’s Palsy
• Sciatica
• Neuralgia
• Parkinson’s
• Trigeminal Neuralgia

Finally, we will examine root causes and holistic (nutrition, lifestyle and herbs) approaches to help deal with the emotional and psychological issues such as:

• Insomnia
• Depression
• PTSD
• Anxiety
• ADHD
• Addiction

There will be a weekly release of materials to include recorded lectures, pdfs, slideshows, and resources in addition to live sessions each week with instructor Carol Jones.

COURSE INFORMATION

Dates: This 4 week course begins November 2nd, 2026.

Registration closes November 16th, 2026.

There is a 4-week grace period after the last class week, to allow ample time for downloading content and finishing the final exam.

There will be 4 live sessions with an instructor, dates TBA.

Pre-requisites: None, Herbal Medicine for Professionals recommended.
