Hosted by The Industry We Want and Initiative for Global Solidarity* this event will focus on responsible purchasing practices, impactful due diligence, and the evolving legislative landscape on supply chain responsibility. By bringing together key stakeholders from across the garment and footwear sector, we aim to deepen our understanding of the interconnected impact of purchasing practices on environmental and social topics.

We are excited to invite you, a decision-maker and expert in the industry, to join us on September 9th in Munich ahead of Cascale’s Annual Member Meeting. Your insights, alongside those of policymakers, brands, retailers, manufacturers, and production country representatives, will be invaluable.

This event represents a critical moment for the garment sector to reflect on what is and is not working for positive systematic change. By fostering equitable sourcing dialogues and embracing responsible purchasing practices, we can stimulate significant improvements in social and environmental standard.

We will deep dive into:

  • Legislative Impact: We will examine and discuss the effects of due diligence legislation (such as CSDDD and the German Supply Chain Act) and support measures proposed by consumer countries on purchasing practices. Our goal is to explore ways to better accommodate manufacturer and worker needs in implementing such legislation, ensuring a fair and just transition.

  • Sector Transformation: With emerging norms and public policy and legislation challenging traditional business models, this event will emphasise the paradigm shift towards shared supply chain responsibility, underpinned by Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence (HREDD). This transformative approach calls for active collaboration between brands, manufacturers, and policymakers, disrupting the previous trend of offloading responsibility onto manufacturers.

  • Paths for Collaborative Action: Practical steps towards transformation include developing context-specific action plans for brand-partner and manufacturer relations, with direct consultation and representation from manufacturers. These plans are crucial for driving improvements in social and environmental practices across the industry.

  • Responsible Sourcing Dialogues: Recognising that the absence of a responsible sourcing dialogue is inevitably bad for business; a business relationship that is based on trust and mutual commitments, makes supply chains more resilient. This shift is essential for addressing power imbalances and promoting sustainable practices that benefit the entire sector and improve the lives of workers throughout the supply chain.

Join us in this dialogue to drive meaningful change towards a more sustainable, inclusive, and responsible industry.
