These workshops are perfectly suited to anyone with even a casual interest in the upkeep and repair of historic and vernacular architecture. The workshops take place daily in an outdoor ‘classroom’ and focus on repair works to a rear 19th century boundary wall, which separate the Irish Heritage School (IHS) campus from the adjacent walled garden. Each workshop provides real ‘hands-on’ experience and will be led by conservation builder Padraig McIntyre, who has coordinated numerous conservation programs on local and regional buildings including at Follys Acre, Birr Castle and Kinnity Hall.
Daily Structure: Come and join like-minded community members from the 20th to the 24th of September learning traditional lime repair skills. The workshops will run from 9am to 5pm each day with both a tea lunch break. The workshops are in the heart of Birr town, so there are plenty of places to eat out or alternatively bring a lunch and use the facilities of the IHS.
Parking: Parking is strictly limited on site so please use the free 24hr car park located adjacent the library and playground, which is only a 2 minute walk from the Heritage School.
Clothing: Please note that you will be in an outdoor environment and will get dirty, please wear old clothes and sturdy boots for this project.
Booking: Please be sure to register for each day you would like to join us, this is important so we know who and how many people to expect each day. Unfortunately this event is only available open to adults (18+).
We can’t wait to meet you all! If you have any queries you can email us at info@irishheritageschool.ie
