BLACK AUGUST 21ST

Join us at The LAMA Shack for a special Black August gathering honoring the legacy of Black resistance, liberation, and collective struggle.

August 21 offers an opportunity to honor George Lester Jackson, writer, educator, organizer, and revolutionary thinker whose years of incarceration became a catalyst for political education, collective organizing, and resistance to systems of racial and economic oppression. Through his writing, study, and organizing within the carceral system, Jackson developed a powerful vision of liberation rooted in knowledge, collective action, self-determination, and solidarity.

Presented by the Black August Organizing Committee and participating organizations, this gathering will take place at LAMA Shack and feature a screening of the Emmy Award-winning documentary The Strike, followed by conversation, reflection, and community.

The evening will also feature guest speakers and live musical performances, creating space to honor history, celebrate resistance, and connect the struggles of the past with the work of building towards a liberated future.
