About this Course
The London Basketball Association and AllOfficials opens up an exciting opportunity for all basketball enthusiasts to get qualified as a Level 2 Basketball Coach and be a part of the workforce that can help grow British basketball talent.
The Level 2 Basketball Coach Certification gives candidates the skills base and confidence to deliver coaching sessions independently as a Head Coach. This course will provide future coaches and/or current coaches who want to enhance their craft with the knowledge, skills and drills necessary to coach basketball sessions for all skills levels. This is the standard level of coaching qualification for all coaches at local level.
This course consists of 6 online lessons and 4 practical days. By the end of this course, participants can expect to:
- Understand the different roles and responsibilities of a coach
- Recognize the coaching process to effectively deliver basketball sessions
- Create an inclusive environment and build connections
- Sports science and analysing coaching data
- Understand the essential basketball individual and team fundamentals
- Understand how to develop players on and off the court

*All 'AllOfficials' courses are beneficial for society, offering opportunities in community sessions, schools, leisure, and youth clubs. However, they are not currently affiliated with Basketball England or its events, such as the national league. These courses were developed with support from FIBA, Basketball England representatives, the London Basketball Association, USA Basketball, and other organizations to provide global knowledge to participants.
Who is the Level 2 Basketball Coach course for?
Participants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Have experience of playing basketball at either local / regional / national / international level
- Have basic understanding of the rules and fundamentals of the game of basketball
- Have access to a computer/laptop/tablet/any other mobile device which can access the internet in order to complete the online portion of the course.

Format of the course
This course consists of 6 Online Lessons and 4 Practical Days.
Online Component:
Duration needed to complete the Online segment: Approximately 10 hours

Practical Component:
Duration needed to complete the Practical segment: 20 hours (4 days)
For Summer 2024, we are giving you the opportunity to complete the Level 2 Basketball Coach course as an individual though practical training and volunteering at our Summer Holidays Ball & Eat camp. These additional volunteer hours allow you complete your course at a discounted rate.
This 20 hour practical component will be split across 4 days at one of the four weeks of Summer Holidays Ball & Eat camp. You will be required to commit to one whole week of camp which runs from Monday to Thursday during which you will act as one of our Assistant Coaches at the camp for a group of 20-25 participants between the Ages of 11-16. At each day of the camp you will learn and work with our qualified head coach and provide you with the necessary training to leading a coaching session. Throughout the week you will be assessed by our head coach.
The practical component requires you to ideally complete the online lessons before undergoing the practical sessions. This will help better prepare you for sessions and give you the opportunity to ask our Qualified Coaches any questions you may have about the course.
Practical Session Details:

You will have the option to select 1 of the following 4 options to complete your practical requirements:
Option 1: Monday 29th July to Thursday 1st August 2024, 12:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Option 2: Monday 5th August to Thursday 8th August 2024, 12:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Option 3: Monday 12th August to Thursday 15th August 2024, 12:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Option 4: Monday 19th August to Thursday 22nd August 2024, 12:30 PM - 5:30 PM
Benefits of completing this course with the London Basketball Association:
When you purchase this AllOfficials Level 2 Basketball Coach Course not only do you receive the standard Level 2 Basketball Coach course materials and sessions, but you also receive free access to 19 Educare Duty of Care courses and a Discounted Enhanced DBS Check. You can find a list of these 19 courses here: Duty of Care courses. These courses and an Enhanced DBS Check would normally cost you an additional £200. With this package, you will receive this for FREE.
Both the Duty of Care courses and an Enhanced DBS are required in order to be able to work with the LBA and/or other sports organisations, especially when working in environments with individuals under the age of 18. Successful candidates will be added to the AllOfficials job board for job opportunities and additionally will be added to the LBA job board as well to get job opportunities from the LBA and the chance to earn £20 - £40 an hour per job.
Candidates can also join our Internship Program offered by the LBA. The Internship program will allow the candidate to work in one of the exciting departments within the LBA under the coaching section or in the office, like Project management, Marketing, Human Resources etc. Please contact us at hr@thelba.co.uk to know more about our various opportunities.
In addition to this course, but not mandatory, individuals will have the opportunity to volunteer at LBA sessions whilst completing the course. These volunteer sessions will provide you with the opportunity to gain confidence and become competent, as you will be shadowing qualified coaches during real practices and informal games.
