Amcan

Horizon Europe yw rhaglen gyllido ymchwil ac arloesedd fwyaf y byd a bydd yn darparu dros €90 biliwn rhwng 2021-27. Yn sgil cysylltiad y DU â Horizon Europe o 1 Ionawr 2024, mae modd i ymchwilwyr yng Nghymru gyrchu bob rhan o'r rhaglen. Mae'r rhaglen yn cynnig amrywiaeth o declynnau cyllido, yn cynnwys cymorth ar gyfer symudedd, cymrodoriaethau, ymchwil unigol ragorol a phrosiectau ar y cyd. Mae Horizon Europe yn cyflwyno cyfle pwysig i ymchwilwyr ac arloeswyr yng Nghymru gynnal gwyddoniaeth ac arloesedd o'r radd flaenaf o fewn fframwaith rhaglen eang a ysgogir gan ragoriaeth.

Sefydliad cyllid yw COST - European Co-operation in Science and Technology - ar gyfer creu rhwydweithiau ymchwil, o'r enw COST Actions. Mae’r rhwydweithiau hyn yn cynnig lle i gydweithredu ymysg ymchwilwyr ar draws pob maes yn Ewrop a thu hwnt. Mae COST yn gweithredu dull ‘o’r gwaelod i fyny’ fel y gall ymchwilwyr greu rhwydwaith ar sail eu diddordebau a’u syniadau ymchwil eu hunain. Mae bod yn hynod o ryngddisgyblaethol ac agored yn nod i Actions. Mae’n bosib ymuno â’r ‘Actions’ sy’n digwydd ar hyn o bryd. Yn ogystal ag ymchwilwyr mewn prifysgolion, mae Actions yn cynnwys y sector preifat, awdurdodau lleol a’r gymdeithas sifil yn aml.

Disgrifiad o’r Digwyddiad

Bydd y weminar yn cynnig trosolwg o Raglen Gyllido Horizon Europe a’r rhaglen COST sy’n rhoi dealltwriaeth glir i fynychwyr o sut i lywio’r dirwedd gyllido, yr amrywiaeth o gyfleoedd ar gael i ymchwilwyr gyrfa gynnar a chyngor i'w helpu i baratoi cynigion cystadleuol i gynyddu capasiti ymchwil yng Nghymru.

Bydd Prif Ymchwilwyr profiadol o brosiectau a ariannwyd gan Horizon Europe yn cynnig awgrymiadau defnyddiol ar gyfer creu cynigion ymchwil llwyddiannus i wneud cais am grantiau'r Cyngor Ymchwil Ewropeaidd a datblygu prosiectau ar y cyd. Bydd cynrychiolydd o’r rhaglen Marie Sklodowska-Curie yn cyflwyno’r cyfleoedd sydd ar gael i ymchwilwyr a bydd cynrychiolydd o’r rhaglen COST yn amlinellu COST Actions a’r cyfleoedd sydd ar gael drwy gyfrannu at yr ‘Actions’.

Fel rhan o'n nod strategol i gefnogi datblygiad proffesiynol ymchwilwyr a chynyddu capasiti ymchwil yng Nghymru, mae Rhwydwaith Ymchwilwyr Gyrfa Gynnar CDdC yn trefnu'r weminar hon ar y cyd ag Addysg Uwch Cymru Brwsel.

Siaradwyr

Catherine Marston: Ymunodd Catherine ag Addysg Uwch Cymru Brwsel (AUCB) ym mis Hydref 2017. Cyn ymuno ag AUCB bu Catherine yn gweithio ar brosiect ymreolaeth prifysgolion i Gymdeithas Prifysgolion Ewrop, ac i’r Cyngor Prydeinig yn UDA. Treuliodd ddeng mlynedd yn gweithio i Brifysgolion y DU ar amrywiaeth o faterion polisi addysg uwch.

Ilse de Waele: Mae Ms. Ilse De Waele yn Gynghorydd Prosiect yn yr Asiantaeth Weithredol Ymchwil a chanddi dros ddegawd o brofiad yn yr UE a'r MSCA, gyda ffocws penodol ar Gymrodoriaethau Ôl-ddoethurol. Mae hi wedi gwasanaethu fel rheolwr prosiect a chydlynydd galwadau, gan reoli'r broses werthuso wyddonol. Archeoleg yw cefndir academaidd Ilse, gydag arbenigedd yn y Dwyrain Agos a chynhanes y Balcanau. Mae hi hefyd wedi cyhoeddi testunau ym maes moeseg ymchwil, gan gynnwys erthygl ar weithdrefn arfarnu foesegol ar gyfer cynigion yr MSCA yn H2020.

Emanuele Volpi: Emanuele Volpi yw Rheolwr Cyfreithiol Uned A3 yr Asiantaeth Weithredol Ymchwil sy’n ymdrin â’r holl faterion cyfreithiol, gweinyddol ac ariannol yn gysylltiedig â gweithrediadau Cyfnewid Staff Marie Sklodowska Curie. Mae hi wedi gweithio i’r Uned ers 10 mlynedd, a chyn hynny bu’n gweithio fel cynghorydd cyfreithiol yn y Gyfarwyddiaeth Ymchwil ac Arloesi rhwng 2010 a 2015, yn ymdrin â phrosiectau Iechyd.

Judith Litjens: Mae Judith Litjens wedi bod gyda'r Gymdeithas COST ers 2018, a'i rôl ar hyn o bryd yw Cynghorydd Polisi. Mae Judith yn gyfrifol am reoli gweithgareddau COST ym maes cyngor polisi wedi'i lywio gan wyddoniaeth, gyda'r nod o gynyddu effaith Gweithrediadau COST ar bolisi. Mae hi hefyd yn cydlynu rhwydwaith Gweithgareddau Trawsbynciol COST o ran cefnogi datblygiad gyrfa ymchwilwyr ifanc a gweithgareddau cydraddoldeb rhywedd COST, gan gynnwys datblygu a gweithredu'r 'Cynllun Cydraddoldeb Rhywedd ar gyfer gweithgareddau yn Rhaglen COST'. Mae Judith hefyd yn rhoi cyflwyniadau i COST yn rheolaidd, ynghyd â chyflwyniadau ar sut i gymryd rhan mewn Gweithrediadau COST yn ystod Diwrnodiau Gwybodaeth ac Ymwybyddiaeth COST i ymchwilwyr yn y gwledydd sy'n aelodau o COST, a Gwledydd sy'n Gymdogion Agos ar draws Ewrop. Mewn rolau blaenorol bu’n gweithio ar bolisi cydraddoldeb rhywedd yn y Comisiwn Ewropeaidd (Y Gyfarwyddiaeth Gyffredinol Cyfiawnder a Defnyddwyr), fel Cynghorydd Ewropeaidd yn Swyddfa Ymchwil y DU ym Mrwsel, a Chymrawd Ymchwil ym Mhrifysgol Caeredin.

Objective

Horizon Europe is the world’s largest research and innovation funding programme providing over €90 billion between 2021-27. With the UK’s association to Horizon Europe from 1 January 2024, researchers in Wales are able to access all parts of the programme. The programme offers a range of funding instruments, including support for mobility, fellowships, excellent individual research and collaborative projects. Horizon Europe provides a major opportunity for Welsh researchers and innovators to carry out world-class science and innovation within the framework of a wide-ranging, excellence-driven programme.

COST – European Co-operation in Science and Technology – is a funding organisation for the creation of research networks, called COST Actions. These networks offer space for collaboration among researchers across all fields in Europe and beyond. COST operates on a ‘bottom up’ approach so researchers can create a network based on their own research interests and ideas. Actions aim to be highly interdisciplinary and open. It is possible to join ongoing Actions. As well as researchers based in universities Actions often involve the private sector, public authorities and civil society.

Event Description

The webinar will provide an overview of the Horizon Europe Funding Programme and the COST programme equipping attendees with a clear understanding about how to navigate the funding landscape, the range of opportunities available to early career researchers and advice to help them prepare competitive proposals to increase research capacity in Wales.

Experienced Principal Investigators from Horizon Europe-funded projects will provide useful tips for generating successful research proposals to apply for European Research Council grants and develop collaborative projects. A representative from the Marie Skłodowska-Curie programme will present the opportunities available for researchers and a representative from the COST programme will outline COST Actions and the opportunities available through participation in Actions.

As part of our strategic goal to support researchers’ professional development and increase research capacity in Wales, the LSW ECR Network is organising this webinar in collaboration with Welsh Higher Education Brussels.

Speakers

Catherine Marston: Catherine joined Welsh Higher Education Brussels (WHEB) in October 2017. Before joining WHEB Catherine worked on a university autonomy project for the European University Association and for the British Council in the USA. She spent ten years working for Universities UK on a variety of higher education policy issues.

Ilse de Waele: Ms. Ilse De Waele is a Project Adviser at the Research Executive Agency with over a decade of experience in the EU and the MSCA, particularly focused on Postdoctoral Fellowships. She has served as both a project manager and call coordinator, managing the scientific evaluation process. Ilse's academic background is in archaeology, specializing in the ancient Near East and the prehistory of the Balkans. She has also published in the field of research ethics, with an article on the ethical appraisal procedure of MSCA proposals in H2020.

Emanuele Volpi: Emanuele Volpi is the Legal Manager of the Research Executive Agency Unit A3 dealing with all legal, administrative and financial issues related to Marie Sklodowska Curie Staff Exchange actions and has worked for Unit A3 for the last 10 years. Before this role, Emanuele Volpi worked from 2010 to 2015 as Legal adviser in Directorate Research and Innovation, dealing with Health projects.

Judith Litjens: Judith Litjens has been at the COST Association since 2018, currently in the role of Policy Adviser. Judith is responsible for managing COST activities in the area of science-informed policy advice, with the aim of increasing the policy impact of COST Actions. She also coordinates the COST Cross-Cutting Activity (CCA) network on supporting career development for young researchers and COST gender equality activities, including the development and implementation of the ‘Gender Equality Plan (GEP) for activities in the COST Programme’. Judith also regularly presents COST and how to participate in COST Actions during COST Info and Awareness Days for researchers in COST Member Countries and Near Neighbour Countries across Europe. In previous roles, she worked on gender equality policy at the European Commission (DG Justice and Consumers), as a European Advisor at the UK Research Office in Brussels, and as a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh.
