Seed to Bouquet ~ Grow your own flowers
This workshop is now being offered as individual modules,1 a month for £65 each rather than as a whole bundle. You will still receive the notes and it will take place as follows below.
Following the success of 2025's Seed to Bouquet workshop where students are now selling their flowers and successfully growing for their holiday let cottages and therefore not buying in all season I am pleased to be offering this workshop again.
Consisting of 7 workshops we will cover sowing seeds including hardy annuals, half hardy annuals and biennials in the spring - then we will discuss starting seeds in the autumn for an earlier start to your season in 2027. We will be taking cuttings of chrysanthemums, perennials and in 2025 we also did some dahlias. During the season we will do some pricking out and potting on of seeds sown, bed preparation and planting out including the very important support of the flowers so that stems are nice and straight, easy and efficient to pick. As the flowers are growing you will get to pinch them to make them more branching and therefore more floriferous. We will look at plant health and treating any problems as they arise.
We will be looking at harvesting for retail so for your gift bouquets and florist shop flowers, also for wholesale which tends to be more event flowers to look perfect for weddings and funerals or parties. There will be some flower arranging demonstrations through the year and a look at some mechanics to arrange with.
In preparation of 'out of season' times we will be cutting to dry flowers and use a few methods to do so. We will also be collecting seeds for drying and sowing the following season to reduce costs and carbon foot print involved with the growing. At the end of the run of workshops we will be looking at the winter workload, bulbs, managing it and what needs to be done to be ready and organised for the following spring.

A hand out is given to you at each session with notes on our main topic each month to go into your folder to keep them for future reference. After each session you will take home with you some seedlings, cuttings, cut stems or seeds so that you can grow them on at home and have flowers to use through the season in your cutting patch or garden. This is a wonderful hands on workshop so come with good work boots and a sun hat or coat to suit the weather, if the weather is inclement we can head into a greenhouse or poly tunnel where possible.
The sessions are 3 hours each so there are 21 hours of practical learning, you don't need to have any prior knowledge, this course is suitable to a complete novice wanting to grow in your garden or wishing to set up your own flower farm. It is also a great series of workshops to further your existing knowledge with new flower varieties and perhaps new techniques. The whole series of Seed to Bouquet is £455 which is £65 per month for 3 hours of hands on learning experience in a relaxed and very friendly environment.
