We're delighted to be joined for this event - run in conjunction with the student-led East Asian Research Society (EARS) - by two amazing authors - Fiona Sze-Lorrain and Shen Yang, to read from and discuss their books Dear Chrysanthemums (Scribner, 2023) and More Than One Child (Balestier Press, 2021).

Fiona Sze-Lorrain is an author, poet, translator, and musician, and the current featured author on our Book Club.

Dear Chrysanthemums is a startling and vivid debut novel in stories... featuring deeply compelling Asian women who reckon with the past, violence, and exile—set in Shanghai, Beijing, Singapore, Paris, and New York.

Born in Shandong China in 1986, Shen Yang belongs to the millions of “invisible children” who violated the One-Child Policy and were forced to live in the shadows of the Chinese society.

More Than One Child provides a vivid account of the family planning era in China, as she jots down her journey towards overcoming the limits of her upbringing and forging her own identity amidst the sorrows of her childhood.

There'll be a Q&A with the writers, as well as a chance to see an exhibition of Jinshan folk art paintings by Chen Huifang, which illustrate Shen Yang's most recent book, Golden Childhood.
