Welcome to our half day live online conference on the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependents) Act 1975. This conference is produced in association with St John's Chambers.

This legislation provides a mechanism for certain family members and dependents to claim for financial provision from a deceased person's estate. The Act is intended to ensure that family members and dependents are not left without reasonable financial provision after the death of a loved one. However, it is important to note that the Act does not automatically entitle a claimant to a share of the estate, and each case will be considered on its own merits by the court.

This conference is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the Inheritance Act and how it operates. Through practical examples our speakers will focus on the requirements for making a claim under the Act, as well as the factors that the court will consider in determining whether to make an award.

You will also gain insight into the different types of claims that can be made under the Act, including claims for reasonable financial provision, claims by cohabitants, and claims for maintenance.
