Avoiding Discrimination in the Recruitment Process
Fri 1 Nov 2024 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM GMT
Online, Zoom
Description
In the recruitment process we clearly want to recruit the very best person for the job, but there is a risk that discrimination can occur. This could be in the very start of the process - in the advertisement, the person specification or the job description. Alternatively, it could be in the selection process itself.
In this course we will look at the law relating to discrimination, and apply that to various recruitment scenarios. From this, we will work out a way to approach recruitment in a non-discriminatory way. We will address:
- The 9 protected characteristics
- Direct and indirect discrimination, with a particular focus on how they might occur in the recruitment process
- Occupational requirements
- Medical questions – what can be asked, and what cannot
- Positive action
