Agreements for Lease – Tips and Traps
Tuesday 10 November 2026 | 10.00 am–11.30 am
Live online with Ian Quayle
Agreements for lease can be extremely useful — but they can also create unnecessary problems if the parties’ intentions are not properly understood or the drafting does not accurately reflect what has been agreed.
This practical 90-minute course is designed for residential conveyancers of all levels of experience and will look at when an agreement for lease should be considered, what it needs to contain and some of the common traps that can lead to disputes or claims.
Using two practical case studies, Ian Quayle will examine both the use of agreements for lease and the issues that can arise when advising on or drafting them.
What will the course cover?
The session will include:
- Advising the landlord and tenant — and obtaining proper instructions
- When and why an agreement for lease should be considered
- The principal provisions commonly found in an agreement for lease
- Identifying the key commercial and practical issues before drafting begins
- Drafting clauses clearly and effectively
- Advising clients on the consequences of the agreement
- Common traps for the unwary
- Avoiding claims, complaints and other problems
The case studies will be used to explore the practical application of these issues and to highlight where apparently straightforward transactions can become problematic.
Delegates will receive extensive written notes to support their learning, and there will be ample opportunity for questions and discussion throughout the session.
Who should attend?
This course is suitable for residential conveyancers of all levels of experience, including solicitors, licensed conveyancers, legal executives, paralegals and others involved in residential property transactions.
