Speakers

Chair: Julia Onslow-Cole is a Partner in Fragomen specialising in Global Government Strategies and Compliance supporting clients worldwide to optimise global mobility strategies, enhance compliance and leverage best practice in all critical immigration related policies including crisis management. Before joining Fragomen Julia was a Partner, Legal Markets Leader and Head of Global Immigration at PwC leading complex multi jurisdictional client engagements and providing strategic global immigration advice. Julia has been advising on the global impacts on immigration policy and practice through the COVID-19 crisis. Julia has been liaising with Government and Business on Brexit and has given expert evidence at the European Parliament. She has represented business at the Prime Minister’s immigration stock take meeting and acted as an advisor to the Home Office on business, investment and growth.

Charlotte Slocombe is a Partner with Fragomen and has been with Fragomen since 2005. She is currently the Partner responsible for the US Consular throughout EMEA. The team include 10 US attorneys and supporting paralegals and represents the largest US immigration support outside of the US in the world. She provides full U.S. consular assistance for non-immigrant and immigrant matters filed at U.S.embassies across the Europe, Middle East and Africa region with particular focus on Ecompany registrations for SME clients and waivers of inadmissibility. Other areas of focus include local USCIS filings for spousal immigrant visas and American citizen services, including complex citizenship cases and renunciation of U.S. citizenship. During COVID the team have been assisting with National Interest Waiver requests throughout the globe and providing strategic solutions for entry during US travel and NIV bans.

Satinder Gill is joint head of the Business Immigration and Regulatory Team at Five Paper Chambers. He is described in the Legal 500 as a business immigration expert and works closely with his solicitors on significant inward investment and migration projects. Satinder works closely with his solicitors for employers and education providers on all aspects of business immigration, including global corporate immigration planning, sponsor licensing, applications under the Points Based System and employer’s liability in the prevention of illegal working. His employer clients range from blue chip companies, professional sports clubs and universities to start ups new to the UK.

Joe Middleton works on immigration, asylum and nationality cases and he has been Head of Doughty Street’s Immigration Team since 2016. Business and commercial immigration forms a substantial part of Joe’s practice. He works with some of the UK’s leading companies on all aspects of business and commercial immigration. Joe is one of the few members of the Immigration Bar with a significant sponsor licence practice, an issue he has been advising on since the Points Based System was launched in 2008. He has acted for dozens of companies at risk of losing their Tier 2 licences and educational establishments facing revocation of their Tier 4 licences. Much of Joe’s work in this area is directed at ensuring that his clients achieve their objectives without having to resort to litigation. Joe is also a regular speaker at sponsor licence seminars organised by ILPA and others.

Alison Stanley is a solicitor and partner at Bindmans LLP where she is joint head of the immigration department. She has specialised in immigration law for over 30 years and for many years has been ranked by the legal directory Chambers as the only ‘star individual’ in Immigration: human rights, asylum and deportation.

Emma Daykin of One Pump Court is a very experienced practitioner in all aspects of immigration. She has always practised in immigration, asylum and human rights but in recent years she has become the expert and led the way in conceiving major strategic judicial review challenges to primary and secondary legislation particularly involving the Ankara Agreement for Turkish businesspersons. She is a very effective junior at all levels either appearing in her own right or led by Queen’s Counsel. Emma acts as an advocate and advises at all levels. She has particular experience in complex trafficking claims, deprivation of nationality, asylum claims based on sexual identity, the Turkish Ankara Agreement and appeals against deportation

Matthew Wills is a Senior Solicitor at Laura Devine Immigration in London. He has focused exclusively on UK immigration and nationality law since 2010. With a broad range of experience, Matthew advises clients on individual and sponsor applications under the points-based system (PBS) as well as providing a variety of immigration and compliance solutions for SMEs through to large multinationals. He also represents high-net-worth clients on Tier 1 (Investor) and Tier 1 (Entrepreneur) applications, including those submitted on a discretionary basis. Matthew is experienced in settlement and naturalisation applications, assists with family immigration matters and advises on applications for EEA nationals and non-EEA family members. He has been actively involved in appeals to the First-Tier Tribunal on applications for discretionary leave to remain in the UK made under Article 8 ECHR and applications for judicial review.
