The King Campaign is a national event that celebrates the important role that African American Men play in every industry of our society and the invaluable impact of positive representation.
A comprehensive study named The State of Young America has found that one out of three African American Men 18-24 is unemployed, and among the employed, 66% say their job is not within their chosen field or profession. Another study conducted by the National Institute of Mental Health determined that African American teenagers are the most likely to attempt suicide, and the Brookings Institute has concluded that poor African American boys are highly unlikely to experience anything but unemployment or incarceration or both. These three studies all reach the same conclusion that something needs to be done to help reshape this narrative.
The King Campaign is in no way saying it is the answer to some of the harsh issues that face African American Young Men, but it can aid in combating these issues. Entrepreneurship can change individuals, families, and communities forever. We aim to provide a culture of mentorship based on the passion and the direction that the youth determines, which can result in creating the employment opportunities they desire, a village atmosphere where they know they are not alone in anything, and the power to positively reshape their family and community economics.
We have a duty to ourselves and the generations that follow us to leave those that must walk our paths less broken than we were when we began the journey to manhood. Our event The King Campaign will honor some of the nation’s top professionals and will draw a diverse audience including parents, professionals, youth, teachers and other members of the community.
The King Campaign is a unique opportunity to generate goodwill with the community and to make positive impressions on the next generation of influencers and business owners. This event will highlight our Next Generation Vendors; who are business owners 18 years of age and under at no cost to them! We are invested in leaving the road to manhood and entrepreneurship less broken than it was when we found it.
