Handpan Fundamentals Level 1 – 4-Week Course

This four-week course is designed for beginners and early-stage players who want structure, clarity and real musical progression.

Across four Thursday evenings, you’ll move beyond simply striking notes and begin to understand rhythm, groove, phrasing and musical flow.

Small group. Focused attention. Calm space. 

This is Level 1 of a progressive learning pathway at The London Handpan School.

• Complete beginners

• Students who have attended an intro workshop and want more depth

• Players who own a handpan but feel stuck

• Anyone ready to build real rhythmic confidence

COURSE STRUCTURE

Week 1 – Fundamentals of Sound & Rhythm

Posture and relaxed technique

Understanding tone fields and hand placement

Building a steady pulse

Simple rhythmic cycles

Playing in time with others

Week 2 – Groove & Timing

Developing internal timing

Accents and dynamic control

Hand independence basics

Building layered patterns

Week 3 – Flow & Musical Phrasing

Transitions between patterns

Creating variation without losing rhythm

Call and response exercises

Building emotional continuity in your playing

Week 4 – Composition & Confidence

Structuring a simple piece

Using space and contrast

Playing with presence

Group play and performance confidence

INSTRUMENTS

In-class instruments are available for hire. 

Students who already own a handpan are encouraged to bring it.

Instruments are available for purchase at a student rate:

Includes soft case and 2-year retuning warranty.

Payment plans available (Klarna or split payments up to 36 months).

PRICING

Course: £300

Handpans are included in ticket fee. Handpans outside of classroom available for purchase, and subject to availability, rental. 

Tickets are non-refundable but transferable to a future cohort with at least 7 days’ notice.
