Sahreyye, سهريّة, in Arabic means a night of entertainment, sharing of arts, and community building. Originally a play by the iconic late Lebanese artist Ziad Rahbani, son of Fairuz— Sahreyye became a symbol of shared cultural exchange through popular performances. In Sahreyye, a key tenent of our community open mic is to center the voices of our people from the SWANA and the global south— with a deep recognition that art is a form of cultural resistance necessary to liberation movements.

In the last sold out Sahreyye, the open mic talents left us all speechless: The talent our community nurtures is extraordinary— from performers aged 4 years old to 77! Everyone has a story to share! What is yours?

🍉 We are so thrilled to be featuring two talented performers! You do not want to miss them!

🇱🇧 Jess Rizkallah is a Lebanese writer and visual artist. Her book the magic my body becomes won the Etel Adnan Poetry Prize awarded by the Radius of Arab American Writers. Her zines include IF LUV IS A CHEMICAL SO WHAT WHO CARES, and ANYWAY.

🇮🇷 Monicki is a multi-talented musician who excels as a vocalist, songwriter, composer, and Tar player. She began her career studying and performing Persian classical music, but has since expanded her musical horizons by delving into the world of jazz. With her unique Middle Eastern signature, Monicki is excited to explore the fusion of jazz and pop, and hopes to create captivating new songs that showcase her diverse range of influences.

🍉 Profits from the night will go to supporting mutual aid organizations. Tickets are at a sliding scale to increase accessibility for all community members. There will be no person turned away due to funds. Please reach out to us! nahdaprojectinfo@gmail.com

🍉  Sign up sheet for performances is live and can be found HERE. Kindly, we try our best to accommodate all those who sign up, but we are also wary of limited space. Please help us plan better by signing up by February 1st. Performances are strictly limited to 5 minutes and can be of any genre!

🍉 Snacks and beverages will be provided in the venue

🍉 This is a family friendly event, and we love seeing our younger generations up on stage! Please don’t hesitate to bring baba, mama, teta, sido, khalto, khalo, uncles, aunties, nieces and nephews and many more!

The Loov, 72 Joy Street, Somerville MA is accessible via Union Square T stop, East Somerville T Stop, Bluebikes, and free parking on site. Unfortunately, there are a couple of stairs up to the venue, so let us know prior if you need accommodation.
