Featuring: Blayne Asing - An evening of Island Style Music

Hawaii-born musician, Blayne Asing, has established himself as the next generation of island singer-songwriters. His original compositions are reminiscent of the folk stars of yesteryear, invokes emotions of love, conflict, maturity and longing. What began as a journey of self-teaching, Blayne has developed many relationships after he was awarded “Most Promising Artist” at the 2016 Nā Hōkū Hanohano Awards, and has since been collaborating with many famous Hawaii-based groups and artists such as Henry Kapono, Brother Noland, John Cruz, and Kalapana.

Drawing from his local inspirations and collaborations and his background in Hawaiian language and culture, Blayneʻs music is quite intimate and heartfelt. It blends the melodies and simplicity familiar to traditional Hawaiian music with the thought-provoking stories of coming-of-age. Blayne has evolved from a full-time gigging musician, now focusing on recording and producing from his home-operated studio, and is committed to developing the most important aspect of his craft; songwriting.

Opener: Jenny Yim (HKF On the Rise Artist)

Jenny Yim was born and raised in Hawaiʻi, surrounded by music. Her father and his brother played music together, and she became inspired, making up songs immediately as a toddler, writing her first fully formed songs around the age of 6 or 7. Jenny has a full, husky tone to her singing voice that she effortlessly melds with a clear, high falsetto. It’s very much her own subtle indie sound and style.

Feeling blessed to be able to share her music, she has been significantly influenced by stories and things that people go through, their resolutions, and turning them into a song they can relate to…songs about feelings that are difficult to put into words. Her goal in life is to help people through her music and inspire people to be nicer to each other.
