HKF On the Rise Artists, Jenny Yim, Nani Carvalho, & Ninamarie Bell as they come together to honor the legendary Bob Marley by reimagining his timeless songs that have inspired generations. Produced by Henry Kapono, this collaboration brings a fresh sound, soulful grooves, and an uplifting energy, all infused with the spirit of island music.
ABOUT: Producer Henry Kapono
Henry Kapono is a Grammy-nominated, multi-award-winning Native Hawaiian singer-songwriter celebrated for his soulful voice and electrifying performances. He gained prominence in the 1970s as part of the legendary duo Cecilio & Kapono (C&K), whose timeless music defined a generation. With a career spanning decades, Kapono has evolved into a leading figure in Hawai'i's music scene, heading Kapono Inc., a premier entertainment company, and expanding his impact as a producer, music director, and community advocate. In 2018, he founded The Henry Kapono Foundation, dedicated to empowering Hawai'i’s music industry through programs, grants, education, and resources.
ABOUT: Jenny Yim
Born and raised in Hawaiʻi, Jenny Yim grew up surrounded by music. From making up songs as a toddler to writing fully formed pieces by age six, Jenny's passion for music has been a lifelong journey. Known for her unique voice—a captivating blend of a full, husky tone and a clear, high falsetto—Jenny has cultivated a subtle indie sound that is distinctly her own. Deeply inspired by the stories and emotions of others, she transforms life’s struggles and resolutions into songs that resonate deeply, expressing feelings that are often hard to articulate. With a heartfelt mission to help and inspire others through her music, Jenny hopes to create a kinder world, one song at a time.
ABOUT: Nani Carvalho
Nani Carvalho is a talented singer-songwriter raised in Ventura, California. Deeply influenced by her Hawaiian heritage and hula, as well as contemporary musical genres, she has cultivated a unique and diverse artistic style. Known for her high-energy performances and versatile vocals, Nani effortlessly blends blues, rock, folk, Hawaiian, and pop music into her sets. As one half of the duo Kailua Moon, formed in 2016 with her husband, slack key guitarist Danny Carvalho, Nani is helping to elevate the music scene, pushing boundaries and captivating audiences with their dynamic sound.
ABOUT: Ninamarie Bell
A singer-songwriter based in Kona, Hawai‘i, Ninamarie Bell crafts dreamy, drifty folk melodies designed to gently stir the heart. Her musical journey began with her earliest mentor—her dad, a keyboard player—who inspired her as they sang together at the piano. Ninamarie’s sound is shaped by an eclectic range of influences, from timeless legends like Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, and Billie Holiday, to contemporary artists like Corinne Bailey Rae and Bon Iver. The result is a unique blend of soulful vocals and emotive storytelling that captivates listeners. Rapidly gaining recognition in the worlds of advertising, film, and TV licensing, Ninamarie’s evocative songs are leaving a lasting impression across screens and stages. Her heartfelt music continues to connect with audiences, making her one of Hawai‘i’s most compelling rising talents.
Opening Act: Nick La`a
Born and raised in Hawaii, Nick La’a, frontman of La’a band, embodies music in his core. His journey began on stage at the tender age of 5, steeped in Hawaiian culture and musical traditions. A graduate of Punahou School and mentored by local legends Brother Noland, Kristian Lei, Bruno Mars and the production styles of David Foster and Quincy Jones, Nick's musical palette spans genres from musical theater to jazz, rock, Hawaiian, R&B, and pop.
Drawing from his vocal and ukulele training, Nick's innate musicality led him to master the piano, ukulele, and bass. He's graced stages statewide, both as a solo artist and as the lead guitarist and vocalist for his band Five2. Collaborations with local icons like Brother Noland and Makana have further enriched his musical journey.
