Saturday 12 September 2026 | Hythe Quay & Maldon Quay
One of Maldon's oldest and most cherished traditions returns as the Maldon Town Regatta celebrates the town's remarkable maritime heritage. Dating back to 1895, the Regatta has become one of the highlights of the Essex calendar, drawing thousands of visitors to the banks of the River Blackwater to enjoy a spectacular day of sailing, music and family entertainment. From the magnificent Parade of Sail and traditional racing craft to live performances, shanty singing and activities along the waterfront, the Regatta captures the unique spirit of Maldon's historic waterfront and its enduring connection with the sea.
As part of the Maldon Festival of Music, Arts & Culture, the celebrations continue on Maldon Quay with an afternoon of traditional English folk dance and maritime music.
12:00 – 14:30
Enjoy energetic performances from The Maldon Greenjackets, Alive and Kicking, and Dark Horse, bringing the colour, music and tradition of Morris dancing to the raised area beside The Queen's Head overlooking the Quay.
15:00 – 16:30
The atmosphere then turns to the sea with an uplifting afternoon of Shanty Singing, featuring Salt Water and Beer and Mainsail Haul. Expect rousing choruses, tales of the sea and plenty of opportunities to sing along as Maldon's historic waterfront comes alive with the sounds of Britain's maritime heritage.
Whether you're watching the sailing on the River Blackwater, exploring the Regatta or enjoying the music on the Quay, this promises to be one of the most vibrant and atmospheric days of the 2026 Festival.

Captain Quack Sparrow and his Epic Duck Race
For the past 20 years Maldon Town Regatta has held a duck race starting with 50 ducks, they now have over 500 plastic ducks that are set free from captivity off the Hythe Quay.
These plucky little yellow waterfowl, excited to be out after a year in the dark, race down river for the glory of being the first duck to cross the line.
Captain Quack Sparrow assisted by his Flock of Little Duckers follow the ducks on their way down stream to pick the up the first duck, and ceremonially turn it upside down to read the number on its bottom, before they chase the rest of the fleet to capture them and put them back in captivity for another year.
