Learn To Morris Dance

Step into one of England’s oldest, most colourful and best-loved traditions with this fun and interactive Learn to Morris Dance workshop, led by The Maldon Green Jackets, Dark Horse and Alive & Kicking.

As part of the Maldon Festival of Music, Arts & Culture, you’re invited to spend an afternoon discovering the fascinating world of Morris Dancing. Ever wondered why it’s called Morris Dancing, how old it really is, or where the tradition came from? Come along and find out all those things you never knew you didn’t know!

Guided by experienced local Morris dancers, you’ll discover the basic steps, rhythms and movements of the three principal styles of Morris Dancing, Cotswold, North West and Border, all in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere filled with music, movement and plenty of laughter.

No previous experience, special clothing or super fitness required. Everything will progress at your own pace, with plenty of opportunities to sit down, enjoy a cup of tea and watch the dancing.

Come along, have a go and discover a wonderful piece of our living English folk heritage.
