During Prohibition, Essex County had a reputation. Toronto Papers described the area as “the Essex Frontier” or “Ontario’s wild west”. The small town of Amherstburg did not shy away from the funny business, and actively took part in the lucrative, albeit shady enterprises that characterized the decade.

Take a stroll through 1920s Amherstburg with period characters, as they share the stories that made local headlines during the Roaring Twenties.

Walking tours are approximately 1-hour in duration.

Although you will not visit a speakeasy during your tour, word on the street is these joints will be swinging from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22. Stop by before or after your tour!
