About this event
An ‘IN REAL LIFE’ 12-week course in the Harold, split into 6-week part one and part two.
Including an introduction to the form, a deep dive into all of its moving parts, and plenty of opportunities to practice, this course aims to demystify the Harold and help students to find delight and freedom in this most flexible of forms.
What is the Harold?
The basis for sitcoms from ‘Seinfeld‘ to ‘Modern Family‘, the Harold is a classic form of longform improvisation. Comprising three sets of scenes interspersed with so-called ‘group games’, the Harold balances group games with two-person scene work, freewheeling creation with opportunities to just play the fun bit again. Building a show together, you will use the skills and variety of the team to create a powerful ‘group mind’, creating and channelling inspiration and creativity into the scenes.
In this course you will be introduced to the Harold stage by stage, building up from simple group games into a complex and rich show where inspiration is everywhere and nothing is left unused.
