Casual/Landscape is a part of Casual/Tease, the Brussels chapter of The Memorial for Those Who Did Not Fall in War.

A screening of Slow Violence by Studio Lemercier, followed by a conversation and Q&A with the artist and studio director.

The film focuses on the largest coal mine in Europe, which is also the continent's biggest source of CO₂ emissions. Operated by RWE, the Hambach mine has already consumed most of the 12,000-year-old Hambach Forest, and its ongoing expansion threatens to erase what remains, along with several villages. Slow Violence follows the destruction the mine is causing and shows how the site has become one of the frontlines of environmental activism, merging political, societal and economic forces into one place.

The title comes from Rob Nixon's concept (Princeton University teacher) of harm that unfolds too gradually to be seen. The film sets moments of quiet contemplation against the immensity of the mine, and turns to the people who stand up to it.
