Tasbih, a pop-up intervention by Rouq’ah

Part of Casual/Tease, the Brussels chapter of The Memorial for Those Who Did Not Fall in War.

Tasbih is taking its name from an Arabic word associated with the recitation of a religious phrase. That devotional practice is displaced onto the circulation of images drawn from mass media, music and politics.

Curated by Mohammad Zaza, the intervention presents a selection of album covers, artworks and visual material from the extensive catalogue of Muslimgauze — the prolific musical project of British artist Bryn Jones, whose work developed an intense and often contested relationship with Palestine, the Middle East, and the imagery and sound of conflict. Through appropriation and iconography, these works form a visual archive inseparable from the music itself.

Tasbih will be on view at Cloud Seven from 22 to 31 October, on the third floor of the art space. On Thursday 22 October, from 19:00 to 21:00, the intervention will be accompanied by a screening of Muslimgauze: Chasing the Shadow of Bryn Jones, directed by Iara Lee, on loop in Studio 7.

Registration is mandatory for each visitor due to the limited capacity of Studio 7.
