Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel invites you to join the third of The Middle Way Initiative's 2022 live series, "Open Question Conversations: Sacred World- Through the Eyes of Prajnaparamita." Each event is a 2 hour Zoom event and includes audience discussion plus Q&A.
In our next Open Question Live Conversation, we will continue our query into the topic of Prajnaparamita with scholar, practitioner and author, Judith Simmer-Brown. Judith will introduce us to the phrase, “The Space in Between,” which is how her teacher, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, described the Feminine Principle in Buddhism.

ABOUT ELIZABETH

Elizabeth Mattis Namgyel has studied and practiced the Buddhadharma for over 35 years under the guidance of her root teacher Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche. She is the author of two books, The Power of an Open Question and The Logic of Faith.
She edited two books by Dzigar Kongtrul Rinpoche, It’s Up to You and Light Comes Through, Elizabeth has taught programs throughout the world, including the USA, Latin America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand and is a teacher in Mangala Shri Bhuti.
After completing a six year retreat, Kongtrul RInpoche appointed her Retreat Master at the Samten Ling retreat center in Colorado. She holds degrees in Anthropology (BA) and Buddhist Studies (MA).
Elizabeth founded a secular nonprofit organization called The Middle Way Initiative to offer teachings, retreats, and conversations with her and other teachers and guests. With Anam Thubten, she is a founding member and teacher in the Wilderness Dharma Movement.
ABOUT JUDITH SIMMER-BROWN, Ph.D.

Judith Simmer-Brown, Ph.D., is Distinguished Professor of Contemplative and Religious Studies Emeritx at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, where she has taught since 1978. As Buddhist practitioner since the early 1970’s, she became a student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche in 1974, and served as an acharya in Shambhala from 2000-2022. Her teaching specialties are meditation practice, Shambhala teachings, Buddhist philosophy, tantric Buddhism, and contemplative higher education. Her book, Dakini's Warm Breath (available from Shambhala Publications), explores the feminine principle as it reveals itself in meditation practice and everyday life for women and men. She has also edited Meditation and the Classroom: Contemplative Pedagogy for Religious Studies (SUNY 2011). She and her husband, Richard, have two adult children and three grandchildren.
