Caesarean Birth Workshop - Everything you need to know
A calm, honest hour walking you through caesarean birth from theatre door to recovery - whether yours is planned, possible, or just-in-case.
Early bird tickets available - last day 9th August!
More than 4 in 10 births in Scotland now happen by caesarean, yet most antenatal courses still treat them as a side note. Six weeks on labour, twenty minutes on theatre. This live online workshop fills that gap in 90 warm, practical minutes.
If you're preparing for a caesarean, you've probably noticed that almost everything out there assumes you'll be labouring. The breathing techniques are for contractions and the birth plans are about pools and positions. When caesareans do come up, it can be in hushed "if things go wrong" tones that leave you feeling as though your birth matters less. It doesn't, and preparing for it properly makes a real difference to how the day feels.
Whether your caesarean is booked in the diary, a possibility you'd like to feel ready for, or you simply want the full picture, you'll leave able to picture the whole day and looking forward to meeting your baby.
What we'll cover
- Why caesareans happen, planned and unplanned (and why "urgent" rarely means frantic)
- Getting ready for the day: the pre-op visit, fasting, and what to pack (big pants feature heavily)
- In theatre, step by step: who those 6–8 people are, what happens behind the drape, and what you'll actually feel
- Making it your birth: options to consider adding to your birth preferences, and how to raise them so your theatre team can say yes
- The birth partner's role, skin-to-skin, and feeding after a caesarean
- Recovery in hospital and at home, plus the red flags every new parent should know
- Live Q&A: bring your questions, nothing is too small or too niche

Your teacher
I'm Natalie Mosson-Kelly, registered midwife since 2017, certified hypnobirthing teacher and antenatal educator, and founder of The Natal Nook. I'm also a mum who has had two caesarean births herself, one unplanned and one planned, so educating parents-to-be about caesarean birth is a real passion of mine!
As a midwife I've supported many caesarean births from the other side of the drape too, so when I describe what the spinal feels like or how to get skin-to-skin in theatre, I'm speaking from experience on both sides of it.

FAQs
My caesarean isn't confirmed yet. Is this still for me? Yes. If a caesarean is likely (breech, placenta praevia, a previous caesarean, or maternal request in discussion), or you'd simply like to feel ready either way, you'll get a lot from it.
My first birth was a difficult emergency caesarean. Will this be hard to sit through? This is a gentle, honest space, and many attendees are preparing for a repeat caesarean after a hard first experience. I've been there myself. We focus on what you can expect and shape this time round. If you'd like more individual support alongside it, my Calm Caesarean sessions may be the right next step.
I'm not local. Can I still join? Yes, it's fully online. The workshop is based on UK maternity care, but most of the content applies wherever you're giving birth.
When in pregnancy should I come? Any time. From around 30 weeks is ideal if a caesarean is planned, though you'll still get plenty from it even a week before your date.
