Hackney North & Stoke Newington Labour Party brings you this fabulous festive fiesta featuring the Ukulele Ska Collective, Joli Blon Cajun Band and some special guest speakers. Join us for this uplifting night of dance and camaraderie. Kick up your heels and support our heroic posties, fighting for decent pay and conditions. All funds raised will go to the Communication Workers Union (CWU) hardship fund.
The Ukulele Ska Collective is a Hackney-based band playing superb, singalong ska numbers from Prince Buster to the Specials and Toots and the Maytals. Their motto is: Enjoy Yourself! Infectiously joyous, they will get you smiling and dancing your socks off to those skanking ukulele tunes.
Joli Blon are a core trio of women (featuring Hackney councillor Fliss Premru!) playing traditional toe-tapping Louisiana dance tunes: a riotous mix of red-hot accordion, rip-roaring fiddle and gutsy guitar. Stomp along to their hypnotic two-steps, mournful waltzes and rumbling blues, often sung in Cajun French.
The night will be compered by picket line poet and labour movement legend Chip Hamer (aka Chip Grim).
Doors open 7.30pm. All welcome.
