4 WEEK DRESSMAKING COURSE: Make a Indigo Smock Top/Dress
7-9pm
THU 27 JAN, 03, 10, 17 FEB
£90 for 4 weeks
If you’ve enjoyed the Great British Sewing Bee, you are going to love this real life experience in our 4 week dressmaking course suitable for beginners or those with experience wanting to make a garment and further their skills!
Working from a Tilly & the Buttons Pattern, come and learn to make your very own on trend Indigo smock top or dress - ranging from sizes 6-24 with sewing tutor Saj from Go Deer at The Old Stores Studio.
Guided all along the way with step by step expert tuition, discover how to make this adaptable item of clothing, gaining valuable generic sewing skills along the way with lots of one to one support.
Cute, comfy and effortlessly stylish, the Indigo smock has no fiddly fastenings so you can throw it on and go. Sew it with classic gathered seams or elevate it to a stand-out piece in your wardrobe with the pretty exposed frill seam.
Indigo has a bodice shaped with bust darts, gently curved empire waistline, and floaty gathered skirt. Make it as a top with dipped hem ending at the low hip, or a knee-length dress with straight hem and pockets (yay!). Choose from three-quarter flounce sleeves or slim-fitting bracelet sleeves. You’ll want to wear one every day of the week.
All tuition, materials and tools are including - all you need to bring is a fabric of your choice. Light to medium weight woven fabric (not stretchy) with some drape is ideal. The lightest would be cotton lawn and the heaviest recommended is a linen.
Skills you will learn/use in this course are as follows.
Measuring for fit
Grading and adjusting a pattern
Fitting a bodice
Sewing and pressing darts
Gathering and easing
Fitting sleeves
Level and/or curved hems
Adjusting facings
Under stitching
Suitable for all levels, but some experience using a sewing machine is desirable. Please note if you are unfamiliar with how to use a machine or want some reminders we have an 'Introduction to Machine Sewing' Workshop just before this course starts - see our booking site for more details and how to book.
