Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop

Join us for a practical fruit tree pruning workshop in the hidden orchard at Purple Patch. Learn the basics of maintenance pruning and caring for established fruit trees. We will cover pruning principles and methods, practice our pruning cuts and have a go at giving the orchard trees some love! We'll also chat about tools - how to look after them, and how to select the right tool for the job. And we'll explore how to manage orchard habitats holistically. There will be plenty of time for questions, and you are welcome to bring your lunch and eat it with us in the packing shed afterwards.

Whether you have a bit of experience or are a complete beginner - this is the workshop for you. Our aim is to equip participants with the skill and confidence to look after fruit trees and their habitats.

The day will consist mainly of outdoor sessions, so make sure to dress for the weather and wear sturdy footwear. Please bring gardening gloves, secateurs and/or loppers if you have them. Some spare tools are available.

Hot drinks are provided, but please bring any snacks you might need, and some lunch if you would like to stay on for a social lunch hour afterwards.

The day is run for The Orchard Project by Alex Reuer, a freelance Orchard Project consultant. As an orchardist and arborist with a background in permaculture, she is passionate about community orchards and urban forest gardens. She runs a local tree care business in Bristol and looks after the Purple Patch orchard.
