"On Iris Marion Young's Feminist Commitments": Michaele Ferguson in conversation with Isabelle Laurenzi

Iris Marion Young—one of the most influential feminist political theorists of the past fifty years—is well known for her work on difference, democracy, and structural injustice, yet nonfeminist readers tend to treat feminism as merely incidental to her thought. Resituating her scholarship squarely within a feminist intellectual and activist tradition, Michaele Ferguson reconstructs her distinctly feminist account of structure and reveals what is lost when Young's readers fail to center her feminist commitments. Drawing on her new book Bandita, Ferguson, in conversation with Isabelle Laurenzi, will offer practical strategies for including feminist scholarship in political theory.

Michaele Ferguson is Professor of Political Science at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is currently finishing a book on feminist political theory, Bandita: Iris Marion Young and the Politics of Writing, Reading, and Citation.

Isabelle Laurenzi holds a Ph.D. in political theory from Yale University. Her dissertation draws on theories of political consciousness and action, as well as feminist critiques of domination and power.
