Photography Workshop: Visual Storytelling & Portraits through Hair Stories

Led by Olamide Ojegbenro, this immersive workshop will take place at our North Greenwich Studio, inviting participants to explore how hair can tell powerful personal and cultural stories through portrait-making and creative exchange.

Together, we will connect, create, and collaborate blending conversation, art, and photography to celebrate identity, memory, and the stories we carry in our hair. It’s all about curiosity, self-expression, storytelling, and shared creativity!

What to expect

💇🏾‍♀️ Storytelling through Hair: Dive into engaging conversations exploring hair as a symbol of identity, culture, and personal history. Each strand holds a story, what is yours?

🎨 Creative Portrait-Making: You will be guided in pairing up with fellow participants to co-create expressive portraits that reflect your shared hair stories. Expect laughter, curiosity, and authentic connection.

📸 You will hear Lamide sharing his latest project, photo book ẸWÁ ÍRÚN, which captures the cultural significance and artistry of Black hair, as well as his tips on how to curate, sequence, and present meaningful visual stories in this format.

What to Bring:
- A camera or smartphone with a good camera. If you don't have one please let us know via email at Events@thephotographyfoundation.org 
and we will reserve one of our Studio cameras for you to use.
- Any personal hair accessories or items you wish to include in your portraits!

About the Organisers

Olamide Ojegbenro is an Irish award-winning film director and photographer. He is the founder of Killarney Young Filmmakers, Chroma International Film Festival—a platform celebrating BIPOC communities, Her International Film Festival and Soulspce Collective. As a portrait photographer, Olamide pushes creative boundaries by focusing on distinctive and diverse faces, showcasing BIPOC artists through his lens. His work reflects a deep commitment to representation and cultural storytelling within the contemporary Irish art scene. He has collaborated with VSCO and several international creative and modelling agencies. Olamide holds a BA (Hons) in Arts Management and is currently pursuing an MA in Design for Change at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT), Dún Laoghaire.

The Photography Foundation was created to provide pathways to professional photography for less advantaged young adults in London by offering education, practical experience, and routes to a career in the creative industries. The Photography Foundation acknowledges that commercial photography can be a stressful career and feel isolating at times. Our events are intended to promote wellbeing and the importance of making time for inspiration and creativity in your practice in order to maintain a sustainable career.

Our six-month commercial photography Training Programme provides a supportive and inspiring environment where people aged 18-25 years old to take their professional photography skills to the next level, develop a commercially-focused portfolio tailored to their career goals, and grow their independent voice whilst gaining practical experience. 🎟 Ticket Information

• Spaces are limited, if you can no longer attend, please request a refund for your ticket at least 48 hrs before the event via emailing us at Events@thephotographyfoundation.org

•If you request a ticket refund in less than 2 days before the scheduled event, you will be charged the full cost of the ticket, and you will not receive a refund.

• There is a small fee for this event, but if you feel unable to pay, please get in touch at Events@thephotographyfoundation.org as we may have bursary spaces available upon remaining availability.
