💐 Step into a 3-hour, relaxed photography Studio workshop designed to help you craft powerful photographic stories through composition, styling, and intention. Set within our spring-inspired Studio, this workshop invites you to experiment, play, and bring your ideas to life using curated props and spring set-ups.

✨ Curated and led by CTRL+CREATE’s cohort mentor Safeen James, this workshop will guide you through the decision-making process behind visual storytelling. You’ll explore angles, framing, directing subjects, and building mood and atmosphere. 

📸 Safeen will begin by looking at examples of photography with strong storytelling. Then, you’ll move into short exercises to define your message and develop visual references using sketches or existing imagery. Following this, it will be time to experiment and shoot within two styled spring set-ups. Your captured images will be shared with you after the workshop.

📈 No prior experience needed, we invite both beginner and advanced photographers to join. Please note that this workshop is aimed at female and female-identifying individuals only.

• Understanding storytelling through composition
• Choosing angles, framing, and image structure
• Developing a narrative and defining your message
• Using visual references to guide your shoot
• Working with props, styling, and set design
• Creating atmosphere with spring-inspired elements (flowers, fabrics, textures)
• Bringing your concept to life through practical shooting (all equipment provided)

About the Organisers

CTRL+CREATE is a creative development platform and talent pipeline supporting early-career women in the creative industries. We bridge the gap between talent and access, creating pathways for young women to grow, develop their craft, and move confidently into the industry. Their mission is simple: to increase access, visibility, and representation for women behind the camera and get more women on set. 

Safeen James is a Filmmaker & Photographer that focuses on capturing cultural experiences within the fashion, commercial and narrative space. Safeen feels compelled to tell nostalgic stories connected to cultural identity, which aims to contribute to the discourse of the Black experience within UK culture. At the heart of all her work, is an eagerness to instigate a form of awakening about one’s identity and their place in a community.

The Photography Foundation is a London-based charity set up in 2019 to create pathways into photography careers and the wider creative industries. We are driven by our belief that everyone deserves a fulfilling creative career, and that creativity thrives when barriers to opportunity are removed. We have grown into a dynamic hub of creativity, community, and career development for diverse audiences. Our events programme is designed to promote wellbeing and to underline the importance of making time for inspiration and creativity in your practice in order to maintain a sustainable career. • Spaces are limited, if you can no longer attend, please request a refund for your ticket at least 48 hrs before the event via emailing us at Events@thephotographyfoundation.org
•If you request a ticket refund in less than 2 days before the scheduled event, you will be charged the full cost of the ticket, and you will not receive a refund.
• There is a small fee for this event, but if you feel unable to pay, please get in touch at Events@thephotographyfoundation.org as we may have bursary spaces available upon remaining availability.
