The Business Side of Photography Workshop

Wed 25 Nov 2026 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM The Photography Foundation, SE10 0EB

📸 Join us at our relaxed North Greenwich Studio for a practical workshop with photographer Hayley Benoit, where you’ll discover how to build a successful freelance photography career beyond taking great photographs. With over 15 years of experience across editorial, commercial, portrait, travel, lifestyle, and film and television photography, Hayley will share insights from her career and help you develop the business skills you need to find opportunities and build a sustainable freelance practice.

What to expect

💼 You’ll explore how to position yourself as a photographer, build a portfolio that attracts the work you want, find and approach potential clients, and pitch your work effectively. You’ll also get to grips with the practical side of freelancing, including pricing, usage rights, invoicing, and contracts.

🤝 Through honest advice, real-world examples, and lessons from Hayley’s own experience, you’ll gain a better understanding of how to build professional relationships, find new opportunities, and navigate the realities of working as a freelance photographer.

✍️ Practical exercise: Craft your client pitch
You’ll identify a client you’d genuinely love to work with and develop a short, tailored pitch. Working individually before sharing ideas in small groups, you’ll consider who to contact, which images from your portfolio to showcase, how to introduce yourself, and what makes your work relevant to that client. You’ll then have the opportunity to review selected pitches as a group and explore how to make them stronger.

💬 We’ll finish with an open Q&A, giving you the chance to ask Hayley your questions about freelance photography, rates, finding clients, and the wider industry.

🎯 Who is it for?
Whether you’re just starting out or looking to take your freelance photography career to the next level, this workshop will help you build your confidence, sharpen your approach, and take practical steps towards the work you want.

☕ Tea, coffee, and biscuits will be offered. 🥤Your ticket also includes one complimentary soft drink.

🎟️ Book your spot to make sure you don't miss out!
