(M)Others Between Shores - Voila! Festival 2026

Devised and performed by five theatre-makers and mothers from Hong Kong

Performed in English and Cantonese.

How can movement, objects, images, live music and sounds give voice to the unspoken experiences of migrant mothers?

Nine years after their award-winning production Mothering Voices in Hong Kong, members of the original creative team reunite in the UK, now navigating new lives, shifting identities and motherhood in an unfamiliar country.

Drawing on over two years of research, interviews and group devising process, (M)Others Between Shores is a work-in-progress documentary theatre production that transforms personal testimonies into a poetic theatrical experience.

Blending physical theatre, object-based puppetry, live music, soundscapes, projections and bilingual text, the production moves between humour, vulnerability and intimate personal moments, inviting audiences to experience the mothers' stories through the body, the senses and the imagination.
