This friendly weekend painting with 'the teacher who teaches the teachers' is perfect for all enthusiasts wanting to know more about the deep traditions of canal folk art, the painted roses of different English regions and different arrangements of flower and foliage.

Learn to capture different styles with expert guidance and lively company. Discover old techniques and see a range of historic canal ware. Don't be put off if you are a beginner - but you'll particularly enjoy this course if you've already attended one of our courses.

Phil Speight MBE is one of the UK's best respected canal painters - see the Guardian feature on his work here. Over a weekend at his workshop in a Cheshire boatyard, Phil gives a lively hands-on guide to painting the Braunston, northern and 'knobstick' roses which make canal art so distinctive. All materials are provided. You come away with your own piece of traditional canal art, a new respect for this heritage craft - and a few new friends. 

Phil's courses always give an entertaining, in-depth study of this uniquely English craft, under the twinkling eye of a great practitioner. Lunch each day, and all the materials you need, are included in the weekend (please let us know any dietary needs at the time of booking). Accommodation is not included, but there is a Travelodge ten minutes' drive away, in Macclesfield.
