Writing and Reading
Online Poetry Short Course - led by Jonathan Davidson
This short course will offer a group of around a dozen the chance to produce new work inspired by interesting and uncommon poems from far and wide. Meeting for two hours a week on Zoom, the course will focus around short and hopefully enjoyable workshop exercises and poetry prompts. Alongside these, there will be discussion about all aspects of the poetry scene and some conversation on how to continue to enjoy the process of writing, reading, listening and speaking poetry. A weekly information e-mail will follow each session. At the end of the fifth session we’ll have a small private poetry reading, although as with all aspects of the course, nothing is obligatory. To finish, there will be a ‘free raffle’ with poetry-related prizes for everyone!
The course will run for two hours on Monday evenings on the following dates:
Monday 1st June 2026
Monday 8th June 2026
Monday 15th June 2026
Monday 22nd June 2026
Monday 29th June 2026
Each session will run from 19:00 to 21:00 BST (GMT+1).
Attendee capacity: 12 - limited tickets now available
Cost: £125 with up limited bursary place available for those of limited financial means – please contact The Poetry Business for details (office@poetrybusiness.co.uk).
Zoom
These workshops will be conducted via Zoom. We have put together this simple 'How To' document to help you download Zoom, join a meeting, and navigate around the meeting features (such as adjusting video and audio, uploading files, and sharing screens).
You will receive a confirmation email from Ticket Tailor with your ticket. The Zoom information will be sent separately.
Bursary Spaces
There are bursary spaces available for writers from groups that are under-represented in contemporary poetry (for instance because of ethnic background) or who are experiencing financial hardship. If you would like to apply for one of these bursary places, please contact workshops@poetrybusiness.co.uk
Refunds
If you no longer wish to attend the workshop please let us know by emailing us. We ask for 3 working days' notice before the workshop starts in order to offer a full refund, and enable us to offer the place to someone else.
Though we will do all we can to help you get set up with the technology it is the participants' responsibility to ensure that their camera, microphone and other computer settings are configured correctly. Please contact us (workshops@poetrybusiness.co.uk) if you are concerned about getting set up for Zoom.
