Biography:
As Chief Operating Officer Matt became the Society of Evidence Based Policing’s (SEBP) first full-time employee in August 2024, a Police Foundation-hosted post that is part of an ongoing partnership with the SEBP. As Chief Operating Officer Matt’s role is to oversee the day-to-day operations of the Society. He also teaches and supervises Masters and PhD students as an Associate Professor at Cambridge University’s Institute of Criminology. Matt is an active researcher and has authored published books and articles on domestic abuse, experimental methodologies, crime analysis, hotspot policing, artificial intelligence and more.
He is the Trial Director for the national pilot of polygraph tests for domestic abuse perpetrators and was the independent technical lead for the Home Office’s police funding formula project between 2021 and 2024. Formerly he was police staff for 15 years in Norfolk and Suffolk. He graduated with course and thesis distinctions from the Master of Studies in Applied Criminology from Cambridge in 2015 and with a PhD in Criminology from the same University in 2019 under the supervision of Professor Barak Ariel.
