Eyebrow, with Jon Hamp

At night, giants sit out on Kelston Round Hill between Bath and Bristol, look out over the Avon Valley and, it’s said, cast out their jewels.

A new album ‘And All The Giants’ by Bristol duo Eyebrow and Kelston Laureate, Jon Hamp unfolds the landscape, history and stories around them.

“And All The Giants” looks out across Bristol from the slopes of Kelston, and builds a new mythology of inter woven paths and stories. Words and music seek the thin places where the tales lie, contrasting the energy and diversity of the city against the darkness and wonder of the surrounding hills and valleys.

“And All The Giants” sees Eyebrow explore a new direction on their sonic journey whilst maintaining their fingerprint sound of lyrical trumpet dancing across mesmeric drums. The album is a collaboration with Bath-based writer Jon Hamp, whose evocative long-form poems explore landscape, history, and our relationship with both.

Jon was born in Weston, Bath and has been writing and hill walking, and writing about hills and walking for a long time. Kelston is important to many in The Avon Valley. It is a beacon, with its views across the Severn to the Brecon Beacons, and eastward to Wiltshire’s white horses.

Eyebrow’s soundworld is seductive and distinctive, and the perfect backdrop for Hamp’s quietly epic word-pictures. Hailed as “Bristol’s answer to Nordic Noir (“Bristol 24/7), Eyebrow comprises trumpeter Pete Judge, of BBC Jazz Award winners Get The Blessing, with drummer Paul Wigens, best known for his work with cult-legends Blurt and The Blue Aeroplanes.

Recorded at J&J Studios in Bristol the album is available on CD and digital formats. The Giants quartet is published in ‘Dry Wood and Kind Light. The Kelston Poems’. The poem ‘And all the giants’ is available in an exclusive single volume.
