“The world is beautiful and verdant, and verily God, the exalted, has made you His stewards in it, and He sees how you acquit yourselves” (Saheeh Muslim).

A Green Deen Tribe Ethical Iftar

Venue: Rumi's Kitchen

120 Craven Park Rd, London NW10 8QD

Time: 4:30pm to 8:30pm

The Blessed month of Ramadan is a time of sacrifice, reflection and deepening our connection to Allah. It's when Jamaat (community), through communal prayer and sharing of meals plays such an important role. At the same time we witness an increase in the use of disposable plastics, food wastage and a doubling of meat in our diet throughout the month. These habits are not only contributing to the environmental crisis and contradict our role as Khalifa (stewards) of the Earth, but equally have a detrimental impact on our spirituality and connection to the Divine.

This year we invite you to join us for our annual communal Iftar, 'breaking of the fast', as we dive deeper into the spiritual impact of reducing plastic use and practical steps we can take.

The programme will start at 4:30pm with reflection, poetry and the communal prayer followed by a delicious Malay vegetarian meal.

As part of our efforts to reduce food waste and our use of disposable plastics during the Iftar, please bring your own reusable Tupperware to eat out of and to take away leftovers, a spoon and your own water bottle!

This is a family friendly event with activities prepared for various age groups - please ensure you register your child accordingly.

Although this is a free event, donations are much appreciated to support our work.
