The Blessed month of Ramadan is a time of sacrifice, reflection and deepening our connection to Allah. It's when Jamaat (community), through communal prayer and sharing of meals plays such an important role. At the same time we witness an increase in the use of disposable plastics, food wastage and a doubling of meat in our diet throughout the month. These habits are not only contributing to the environmental crisis and contradict our role as Khalifa (stewards) of the Earth, but equally have a detrimental impact on our spirituality and connection to the Divine.
This year we invite you to join us for our annual communal Iftar, 'breaking of the fast', as we dive deeper into the spiritual impact of meat consumption and practical steps we can take.
The programme will start at 5:30pm with a nourishing vegetarian meal followed by recitation, reflections and poetry.
As part of our efforts to reduce food waste and our use of disposable plastics during the Iftar, please bring your own reusable Tupperware to eat out of and to take away leftovers, a spoon and your own water bottle!
All ticket sales will go towards food and the running of the event.
