Following the December 2025  'SPAT OUT' event, where over 300 people gathered to listen to the experiences of the claimants in the case against Metanoia, we are now organising a second event.

NOTE AS OF FEB 11TH RE THE PUSH BACK EVENT:   

The Metanoia Institute either made a recording or was given a recording and transcription of the SPAT OUT event. Permission was not given for this violation.  The institution is using the transcription to support its defence against the claimants.   This action from a therapy training institution to defend itself in the face of claims of institutional racism is an unethical violation and intrusion, a misuse of public space and testimony.  

A desperate move to insist on an institutional innocence in the face of claims of institutional racism.  

The claimants have this to say regarding the PUSH BACK event:  


"Before we begin, we want to be transparent with everyone here. This event is a public event and is not confidential. At a previous public event, material that was shared was later transcribed and submitted as evidence by our former institution in the ongoing legal proceedings.We therefore want participants to be fully informed so that you can make your own choices about what you share and how you participate.We know that this can affect how safe or open people feel, and we want to respect that. Please take care of yourselves, share only what feels right for you, and know that listening is also a full and valued form of participation".

Each of the claimants shared their experience of their encounters with institutional racism in the institution.  

This time 'PUSH BACK' will be an opportunity for people to respond to the claimants statements and the issues raised as well as get an update on the campaign.  

  • You might want to share your response to the SPAT OUT event - as a letter, a poem, a list, some bullet points, a few notes.  You can read, we can post slides, someone else can read your words.  It can be anonymous if need be.  
  • You might share your own experience of institutional racism - what do you need to hand back to the institutions?   How might you wish to reclaim life from the institution? 
  • You might share what you have witnessed and what it is that you want to see.  
  • What is revealed when we frame the institution as the client/patient and apply our analytics?

The focus of this gathering is that of holding space for responses to the first event, bearing witness to what has been as well as space for imagining what might be and noting what is.
