Wet, scrunch, and rub layers of mulberry paper into one textured piece using Korean joomchi. Leave with a handmade wall hanging.
A SHIFT HAPPENS Workshop hosted by The Restoration Refugee
What you've been holding together is allowed to fall apart. Sometimes the old shape has to break down so something stronger can take its place.
Joomchi is a Korean paper art where layers of mulberry paper fuse into one strong, textured sheet using only water and your hands. No glue. Wet it, scrunch it, rub it, and let the friction do the work. There's an old Korean saying: silk lasts five hundred years, but paper lasts a thousand. Breaking it down is what makes it last. It's tactile, a little messy, and a great way to move stress out through your hands.
What we'll do
- Choose and layer colored mulberry papers
- Wet, scrunch, and rub them into one fused piece
- Finish it as a wall hanging
You'll leave with
- Your handmade joomchi wall hanging
No art experience needed. Imperfection encouraged.
